Word of the day: 'daar'
Meaning:
daar - 1. gallows [n. fem. Persian] 2. house/home/place [n. mas. Arabic]
Note: 'daar' is also used as a suffix as in 'hissedaar', 'daaG_Daar', etc.
Couplet:
mai.n chup rahaa ki is me.n thii aafiyat jaa.N kii
ko_ii to merii tarah thaa jo daar par bhii gayaa
[Ahmed Faraz]
Associated word(s):
1. daar-o-rasan - gallows and rope (hangman's noose)
aayaa hai kabhii zikr agar daar-o-rasan kaa
gesuu-va-qad-e-yaar kii baat aa hii ga_ii hai
** I realize that daar-o-rasan probably does not qualify
as an associated word. Nevertheless, the usage of the two
words in juxtaposition is so common in Urdu poetry that I
thought it appropriate to include it here. **
