Poet: Afzal Firdaus
Afzal Firdaus was one of the poets from the Houston
area who was read his poems at the mushaira. The
release of his new book of poems 'Jab Sara Kaajal
Bah Jaaye' was also announced. Some of you might be
interested in knowing that Afzal Firdaus is a 'padre',
i.e. a priest.
Some miscellaneous couplets by Afzal Firdaus sahib:
tasavvur bhii puraanaa ho gayaa hai
use dekhe zamaanaa ho gayaa hai
ye aur baat hai ke ko_ii muntazir na ho
ab shaam ho ga_ii hai to ghar jaanaa chaahiye
[muntazir = waiting]
And now for some couplets from his ghazal:
is tarah sataayaa hai pareshaan kiyaa hai
goyaa kii muhabbat nahii.n ehasaan kiyaa hai
sochaa thaa ki tum duusaro.n jaise nahii.n hoge
tum ne bhii vahii kaam merii jaan kiyaa hai
mushkil thaa bahuut mere liye tark-e-ta'alluq
ye kaam bhii tum ne meraa aasaa.N kiyaa hai
[tark (karanaa) = to give up; ta'alluq = relationship]
har roz sajaate hai.n terii hijr me.n Gunche
aa.Nkho.n ko terii yaad me.n gul_daa.N kiyaa hai
[hijr = separation; Gunche = flower buds]
[gul_daan = flower vase]
** I am a little unsure of the second 'misra' of the
last sher. I would appreciate it if someone else who
attended the mushaira is able to confirm this. **

The MeG edition posted yesterday had the wrong serial
number. It should have been #677 and not #676. Sincere
thanks to all those who e-mailed me and brought this
to my notice.
