September 2000 Index
Date: 13-Sep-2000 Poet: Ahmed Faraz Today's ghazal has been selected from Music Today's album titled Gulistan Volume 7 which feature ghazals sung by Tahira Syed, daughter of Mallika Pukhraj. Volume 8 in the same series features Geets and Folk songs by Tahir Syed. It is a nice collection of ghazals sung well by Tahir Syed, whose voice may take some getting used to. However, if I wanted to buy just one album of her ghazals, this would be it. The album is fairly easily available. The inlay card is well done except that the name of the poets is missing - an unpardonable yet all too common error in a ghazal album. This is the first ghazal on Side B of the tape. I will post some more ghazals from this album. For now, let's enjoy Ahmed Faraz's poetry. ye aalam shauq kaa dekhaa na jaaye vo but hai yaa Khudaa dekhaa na jaaye [aalam = condition; but = idol] ye kin nazaro.n se tum ne aaj dekhaa ke teraa dekhanaa dekha naa jaaye hameshaa ke liye mujh se bichha.D jaa ye ma.nzar baarahaa dekhaa na jaaye [manzar = scene; baarahaa = often] Galat hai jo sunaa, par aazamaa kar tujhe ai baa-vafaa dekhaa na jaae ye maharuumii nahii.n, paas-e-vafaa hai ko_ii tere sivaa dekhaa na jaaye [maharuumii = wanting/lacking; sivaa = other than] [paas-e-vafaa = regard/respect for love] "Faraz" apane sivaa hai kaun teraa tujhe tujh se judaa dekhaa na jaaye -------------------------------------------------- Mehfil-e-Gazal Archive: http://www.geocities.com/urdu_poetry/meg/ Urdu Poetry Archive: http://www.urdupoetry.com To unsubscribe, send a blank e-mail to urdu_poetry-unsubscribe@egroups.com For all other queries, send an e-mail to moderator@urdupoetry.com --------------------------------------------------
