Moderator's Note:

I get a lot of queries from subscribers about posting their own poems
on Mehfil-e-Gazal. Mehfil-e-Gazal is not the right forum for this. There 
are other mailing lists on eGroups (http://www.eGroups.com) where 
budding/aspiring poets can post their original work. Two mailing lists 
on eGroups that I know of are Bazm and Urdu Network.

You can also post your poems on alt.language.urdu.poetry (ALUP) 
newsgroup. ALUP is a discussion forum dedicated to urdu poetry 
and if you are looking for constructive criticism for your work, this is
the place to go. You can access ALUP and other newsgroups through
newsgroup bowsers like Deja (http://www.deja.com).

And now, on to today's ghazal. This ghazal has been sung by Jagjit 
Singh.


gulashan kii faqat phuulo.n se nahii.n kaa.NTo.n se bhii ziinat hotii hai 
jiine ke liye is duniyaa me.n Gam kii bhii zaruurat hotii hai 

[faqat = merely; ziinat = decoration/adornment]

ai vaa_iz-e-naadaan karataa hai tuu ek qayaamat kaa charchaa 
yahaa.N roz nigaahe.n milatii hai.n yahaa.N roz qayaamat hotii hai 

[vaa_iz = preacher]

vo purasish-e-Gam ko aaye hai.n kuchh kah na sakuu.N chup rah na sakuu.N 
Khaamosh rahuu.N to mushkil hai kah duu.N to shikaayat hotii hai 

[purasish = enquiry

karanaa hii pa.Degaa zabt-e-alam piine hii pa.De.nge ye aa.Nsuu 
fariyaad-o-fuGaa.n se ai naadaan tauhiin-e-mohabbat hotii hai 

[zabt = restrain; fariyaad = plea; fuGaan = lament; tauhiin = insult]

jo aake ruke daaman pe 'sabaa' vo ashk nahii.n hai.n paanii hai 
jo aa.Nsuu na chhalake aa.Nkho.n se us ashq kii qiimat hotii hai
