A ghazal by Shehzad Ahmed. It has been sung beautifully by Ghulam Ali. I have given the ashaar in the Ghulam Ali version first and then the remaining ashaar. apanii tasviir ko aa.Nkho.n se lagataa kyaa hai ik nazar merii taraf dekh, teraa jaataa kyaa hai merii rusavaa_ii me.n tuu bhii hai baraabar kaa shariik mere qisse mere yaaro.n ko sunaataa kyaa hai [rusavaa_ii = notoriety; shariik = to be a part of] paas rahakar bhii na pahachaan sakaa tuu mujhako duur se dekh kar ab haath hilaataa kyaa hai umr bhar apane girebaa.N se ulajhane vaale tuu mujhe mere saaye se Daraataa kyaa hai [girebaa.N = technically means the collar of a shirt but is generally used to refer to a person's clothing/body, depending on the context it is used] mai.n teraa kuchh bhii nahii.n huu.N, magar itanaa to bataa dekh kar mujhako tere zehan me.n aataa kyaa hai [zehan = mind] The following ashaar are not sung by Ghulam Ali: mar gaye pyaas ke maare to uThaa abr-e-karam bujh ga_ii bazm to ab shama jalaataa kyaa hai safar-e-shauq me.n kyo.n kaa.Npate hai.n paa.Nv tere duur se dekh kar ab haath uThaataa kyaa hai Note: The second misra of this sher is almost identical to the misra in the third sher. It may be a coincidence. However, what is more likely is that the singer modified the words of the sher to make it easier for the general public to follow. But I may be mistaken as the general meaning of the two ashaar are quite different.
