Shaikh Imam Bakhsh Nasikh once went to a businessman's house. A handsome boy was lying there, half asleep. Nasikh saw him and composed the line: hai chashm niim_baaz ajab Khvaab-e-naaz hai [niim_baaz = half open] But he could not find the second line to complete the sher. He came home and was still trying to find the second line when Khwaja Vazir came to visit him. When the visitor found out the reason for Naasikh's silence, he helped compose the second line. The sher then became: hai chashm niim_baaz ajab Khvaab-e-naaz hai fitanaa to so rahaa hai dar-e-fitanaa baaz hai [fitanaa = mischief; dar = door] Source: From the archives of ALUP (alt.language.urdu.poetry) Posted by: Jamil Ahmad |
